African actor Djimon  Hounsou wins

The 18 th International Prize of Humor

*****

The 18th Bouzghiba-Award is attributed to the African actor Djimon Hounsou,  as a tribute for his spectacular and incomparably achievement.

He is from Benin.  Born in 1964 at Cotonou, he left very early his native country to go to France. He had difficulties before becoming a fashion model. In 1990, he went to USA. Hollywood gave him the first chance. He played in “Without You I’m Nothing” . However, it was the role of rebellious slave in Spielberg’s movie “Amistad” which opened the doors of fame. The two movie-makers Ridley Scott and Edouard Zwick gave him a role in their respective film : ‘’Gladiator’’ and ‘’Blood Diamond’’ . In 2007, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2019, he created Djimon Hounsou Foundation in order to strengthening Panafrican Identity and Self-Awareness.

The ’’Bouzghgiba-Awards” is an original prize which was created in 2005 by the Moroccan artist, writer and critic-movie Razak Abderazzak. The creator of Bouzghiba’s avatar launched this cultural award in order to encourage humorous performances around the World. The trophy is represented by a painting made by him and inspired by the life of the laureate.

Art painting and bibliophilia are the two fundamental characteristics that distinguish this cultural and anti-materialist prize. After the awarding process, a monographic book is published to develop the apology of the prizewinners.  3 volumes have been published under the same label, including one in France. The total number of books written by Razak is 15. His latest artistic creations highlighted via social media are : ’’Haiku Digi-Hybrid’Art’’ and ’’The Nature has talent. Rocky figuration’’.

’’Djimon Hounsou is really lucky, said Razak, after the bad time, the delightful days.

As a critic-movie, I had written a glowing chronicle on his nice story. I posted it in my blog in 2008. This cine-column started like this: ’’Its very difficult for African actor to be admitted as an actor in Hollywood. Yet, Djimon Hounsou is the exception that breaks the rule. With his athletic build, he imposed his name on the Parisian microcosm.’’

I like him as an actor, but I most appreciate Hounsou the globe-messenger. To be actor is good, but to add commitment to act is better. He is fighting against modern slavery, at a time when human exploitation around the world has taken unsuspected forms.

I wish him long life and more performances.

CONGRATULATIONS’’.
